Scribe & Quill is an established publication for writers of all
experience levels and genres. Our writing resource delivers
informative articles, columns, interviews and
humor.
Our goal is to focus on all aspects of writing, including creativity,
freelancing, technique,
marketing and promotion.
Please be sure to read these guidelines in their entirety prior to
submitting anything to Scribe & Quill. The main rules are:
(1) NO attachments are accepted. Any attachments received will be intercepted and automatically deleted without being read.
(2) Where noted, DO query before sending in a full submission. As a
rule of thumb, DO query for articles, interviews and unassigned book
reviews. There is no need to query for humor, poetry or fiction (unless
your fiction piece exceeds 2,000 words). If you fail to query for items
that require that you do so according to our guidelines, your
submission will be deleted unread. Most writers are terrific at
following guidelines, but some aren't. It's only fair that we focus on
those who actually bother to read the guidelines and to follow them. If
you aren't sure whether to query because of some extenuating
circumstance, drop us a line and we'll let you know if a query is required.
(3) S & Q accepts previously published pieces.
(4) Due to the volume of submissions, please allow 30 days for a
response. It is likely you won't have to wait that long, but please do
not query regarding your submission until the full 30 days have passed.
Now, on to the details! ;)
ARTICLES/INTERVIEWS
Articles must focus on writing-related issues
and must be no longer than 2,000 words. Interviews must be pre-approved
and should focus on writers, poets, authors, teachers,
editors, agents or publishers.
All articles and interviews must be
queried in advance -- please do not send an entire article or interview
unless your query has been previously accepted by Scribe & Quill.
We already have accepted articles and interviews for publication, so there are a limited number of
spots open for future issues.
Scribe & Quill accepts reprints. We require that you hold
the copyright to the article prior to submission to us.
Send queries via e-mail only -- snail mail queries not accepted -- to
scribequill@gmail.com.
Use "Query" in the subject line and paste the query directly
into the e-mail message area. Please note if the article is previously
unpublished or if it is a reprint (if so, note where and when the article was published before.)
Your query will be accepted or rejected via e-mail response.
If your query is accepted, send your article/interview in the body of an
e-mail -- NO attachments will be accepted and they will be deleted
automatically. With your article/interview, include your full name, mailing
address and e-mail address.
Scribe & Quill will reserve one-time electronic rights to publish
the article in our text-only e-mail version of the magazine. The issue
in which your article appears will be copyrighted via Scribe & Quill. However,
all other copyrights remain with the author. Authors are free to publish their articles
elsewhere. Articles/Interviews are archived on our Web site.
If the article is accepted for publication, payment will
be made to the author in the form of advertising space via a 50-word text
ad of your choice and display of your banner ad on our
Web site for one month ($35 value).
HUMOR
Humor articles must focus on the trials and tribulations of
the writing life. Offbeat or unpredictable humor is a plus -- just make
sure it isn't so nebulous that our readers will miss the laugh!
Submissions should be under 1,000 words.
Want to tickle our funny bone? Send your humor item
pasted directly in an e-mail message to our humor editor at scribequill@gmail.com.
Use the subject heading "Humor." Please include your full name, mailing address and
e-mail address.
We will either accept or reject your submission. If accepted,
we ask for one-time electronic rights to publish the submission in
our text-only e-mail version of the magazine. We copyright the issue where
the humor piece appears, but all other copyrights remain with the author.
Authors are free to publish their humor pieces elsewhere. Articles are
archived for one year on our Web site.
If the article is accepted for publication, payment will
be made to the author in the form of advertising space via a 50-word text
ad of your choice and display of your banner ad (up to 7k) run on our
Web site for one month (value of $35).
BOOK REVIEWS
Scribe & Quill publishes an average of five to ten book reviews each issue.
Reviewers must be willing to review both print and electronic books. Each review is 300-500
words and must offer an objective assessment of the book reviewed.
Most reviews are assigned, but we will consider queries from
non-staff reviewers on occasion. Send all outside book reviews to scribequill@gmail.com. Reviewers keep the books they review
and receive payment in the form of one 100-word text ad per each
published review in addition to 30 days of book gallery services FREE OF CHARGE. All proceeds from sales made through the book gallery go directly to the author. Scribe & Quill does NOT keep a percentage of book gallery sales.
Book reviews are archived on our Web site.
POETRY
Effective January 8, 2009, Scribe & Quill no longer accepts poetry submissions.
Poetry submitted prior to this date, if accepted, will still be published in a future issue of Scribe & Quill unless you choose to withdraw the submission.
Payment will
be made to the author in the form of advertising space via a 100-word text
ad of your choice for one month (value of $25).
FICTION
Effective January 8, 2009, Scribe & Quill no longer accepts fiction submissions. Fiction submitted prior to this date, if accepted, will still be published in a future issue of Scribe & Quill unless you choose to withdraw the submission.
Payment will
be made to the author in the form of advertising space via a 100-word text
ad of your choice and a banner ad on
our Web site for up to two months of exposure ($45 value)

Scribe & Quill respects your privacy. We will NEVER buy, sell or
rent out your name or e-mail address to other companies or third
parties for ANY reason. Our client and subscriber lists are NOT for
sharing with others!

of the article/review authors themselves and do not necessarily reflect
the opinions of the editor/publisher or the staff members of Scribe
